The Tired Girl Is Back

Finally, a trend we're qualified for.

by Anonymous Bestie

Somewhere along the way, looking well-rested became the ultimate gaslight.

We started color-correcting our under-eyes, slicking every flyaway into submission, icing our faces before 8 a.m., tracking our sleep, drinking electrolytes, applying eye patches as often as possible, and generally doing everything possible to suggest that we wake up refreshed and hydrated with absolutely nowhere urgent to be.

Meanwhile, I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted.

So imagine my delight when I started seeing TikToks of beauty creators actually highlighting their under-eye bags. At last, a trend we are already qualified for.

“Tired girl” makeup has officially graduated from internet micro-trend to an actual beauty direction. Fall 2026 runways leaned into smudged eyes, bedhead, blurred lips, barely-there complexion products, and the kind of slightly undone face we spent the last several years trying very hard to correct. Byrdie is calling out “tired girl eyes” as one of fall’s biggest makeup trends, while Elle declared “lazy beauty” officially in after seeing the same lived-in feeling across the fall runways.

Obviously, we are into it. Mostly because we are tired.

There is something deeply funny about the internet turning dark circles into something people intentionally apply. Some tired-girl tutorials involve adding reddish or mauve pigment underneath the eyes to create the exact discoloration many of us have spent years buying expensive concealer to erase. One viral version reportedly involves 12 steps, which feels counterproductive when the entire point is looking like you could not possibly be bothered.

Personally, if we are going to participate, we would prefer to take the shortcut and simply stop covering everything quite so aggressively.

The Tired Girl Routine

If the entire appeal here is looking a little less done, so we refuse to turn tired-girl makeup into another 12-step routine. The goal is good skin, strategically imperfect makeup, and approximately five minutes of effort.

PREP: Sofie Pavitt Face We may be tired, but we will not be dehydrated. Sofie Pavitt’s entire line is basically all hits. Never skip the sunscreen, which is hydrating enough to make skin look good while still doing the important part: protecting it. Tired girls still care about preventing unnecessary aging.

BASE: m.ph Le Skin Weightless Serum Foundation This is not the moment for a completely perfected base. Mary Phillips’ Le Skin is lightweight and melts into the skin, which is exactly what we want here. Use enough to even things out, but let some actual face remain. Freckles, under-eyes, whatever. We are resisting the urge to correct ourselves into oblivion.

EYES: Victoria Beckham Beauty Satin Kajal in Cocoa The eye should look like you put liner on several hours ago and then lived a little. Cocoa is soft enough to avoid a severe black line, and the formula is basically begging to be smudged. Draw it close to the lashes, blur it with your finger or a small brush, and absolutely do not attempt perfection.

CHEEKS: Rhode Pocket Blush in Sleepy Girl Obviously. It is a muted mauve that gives the face some color without suddenly making you look aggressively perky. Tap it into the cheeks and leave the edges a little diffused. Rhode pairs Sleepy Girl with Raspberry Jelly for a monochromatic berry-mauve situation, which conveniently saves us from having to think too hard about it.

LIPS: Rhode Peptide Lip Tint Just a suggestion. We love it, but we also love approximately 100 other lip tints, and there are so many good hydrating options right now. Use whatever you already have that is closest to your natural lip color and be on your merry way.

At the end of the day, the appeal is pretty simple: we are exhausted, and for once beauty is not asking us to hide it. The smudged eyes, softer skin, blurred lips, and slightly undone finish feels like a win to us. No performance of being impossibly refreshed, no pretending eight hours of sleep happened when it absolutely did not.

We are tired, the trend is tired, and for once the timing feels perfect.
