My Last 3 Sephora Orders

And what they say about my mental state

There are a lot of ways to check in with yourself.

You can journal, or meditate, maybe reduce your screen time. You can also, if you are feeling brave, open your Sephora purchase history and take a good, hard look at whatever that is for clues.

I don’t know what possessed me to look, but my past-self perhaps has some explaining to do.

My last three orders are, dare I say, impractical. Especially when you consider the already full makeup drawers currently living in my bathroom.

They might say this girl is potentially unhinged, definitely a maximalist, and certainly has not done her color analysis. They also say she is willing to take one for the team and try absolutely everything in pursuit of the plot. 

To be clear, if I haven’t bought every pink nude lip on the market, I am circling in that vicinity. I just cannot find what I am looking for, which is: a lip that looks like almost nothing, but NOT nothing. A pink that is not too pink. A nude that does not make me look ill. A brown that reads chic instead of dehydrated. A slight wash of color that does not make me look like someone’s drunk cousin.

So yes, there are multiple lip products in these carts. I am now teetering on the edge of having too many lip products, a conundrum I did not think was possible before these particular checkouts.

However, I did find a current favorite.

Natasha Denona’s Hy-Gloss Tinted Lip Gloss Balm in Cherry Blossom is my go-to at the moment. It is pink without being too pink, super hydrating, and glossy without being sticky, and I am a big fan. I personally think it is just the right color, which is not a scientific statement, but it is the highest praise I can give a lip gloss right now.

I also bought the m.ph by Mary Phillips Lip Ciggy Sheer Lipstick Balm in Siren and Slow Burn because I love the idea of them. I already have three or four other colors that I am barely using, so naturally, why not add more?

Also, in place of a real cig, a Lip Ciggy just sounds like something you would find in a tiny evening bag next to a hotel key and an Advil, which is a purse composition I can be proud of. 

Do I love them? I don’t know. But I like them. This is the problem with lip products. They are almost always good enough to keep trying, which is how you end up with a drawer full of “alright, yes.”

Then there are the liners, because once the lip color is not immediately solving your life, you decide the issue is architecture.

I added Summer Fridays Flushed Lip Stain in Almond thanks to Makeup by Kelli Anne, and because her recommendations are rarely wrong, I was happy to snag it before it sold out. A soft neutral brown lip stain sounds like exactly the kind of product I convince myself will become my new vibe. We will see.

Which brings us to the rest of the order.

I reordered actual staples, which is where the cart becomes slightly less incriminating. Sofie Pavitt Face Mandelic Acid Exfoliating & Clearing Serum is already in my routine, so that was responsible. The ONE/SIZE Powder Melt Glass Setting Spray now comes in a mini, which means the travel version of my face is officially complete.

Then I went nuts, I guess, and ordered more complexion products despite having a full drawer at home.

The Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Moisture Repair Balm Serum made it into the lineup, along with the Yummy Skin Lift & Flex Concealer. Do I need either of them? Absolutely not. Has it been fun to try them? Yes, and unfortunately, that does count for something.

The Tata Harper Brightening Eye Gel is basically a hope and a prayer. I am not sure anything works on my chronic eye circles, but I continue to participate in the category. Dark circles are not a moral failure, but I would still prefer mine to be less narratively dominant.

Rhode is its own subplot in my cart history.

I bought the Peptide Lip Treatment in Salted Caramel, the Pocket Blush in Teacup, the Pocket Brush, and somehow ended up with the Caffeine Reset mini, which felt like a gift for being so loyal & committed. I really wanted the new lip liner in Stretch, but I did not get there fast enough. I settled for adding Press, and with a lip drawer currently busting at the seams, I suppose Sephora did me a favor.

The REFY Water Bronzer Liquid Cushion in Cove is now out of stock, but it has been an exceptionally good addition to my base. It gives warmth without making me feel like I overcommitted, which is all I ask from a bronzer at this point.

So what do my last three Sephora orders say about my emotional state? Unsure.

But one thing is for sure: someone should freeze my accounts and ban me from lip products until I get myself under control.
